No answer!: To many age, hormonal, and exercise variables, including machines versus free weights, intensity, repititions, length of workout, etc. However, the gains made early are neural gains, where you learn to contract muscle in synchrony and relax opposing muscle. Muscle cell growth starts 2 & 1/2 weeks after starting a program and will continue for months!
