Very high pressure: "severe pulmonary hypertension" means that the blood pressure in the lungs is very high. This is different than "systemic hypertension, " which is high blood pressure in the vessels of the body. The concept, however, is the same. There are a number of causes of this pulmonary hypertension, and when very severe, it can cause significant disease. This should be followed closely by a specialist.
