A member asked:

What exactly does it mean to be pre-diabetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

At risk for diabetes: People with impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance are at high risk for developing diabetes. In this category, fasting blood sugars are 100-125 mg/dl and/or 2-hour post-prandial sugars are 140-199 mg/dl. Patients with diabetes have fasting sugars of > 125 and/or 2-hr post-prandial blood sugars of > 199. Either way, they are at risk for early heart disease, etc.
