Yes: Anyone who has had acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFP) is at about a 25% risk for recurrence with future pregnancies. The initial episode appears to have a genetic predisposition due to an autosomal recessive gene defect. There is no current recommendation to screen for this genetic defect. The incidence of AFP is around 1 in 10, 000 pregnancies.
