My wife thinks i should see someone for my allergies. should i?

Maybe: This depends on your symptoms. Most allergies are well controlled with otc medications, such as claritin, zyrtec, allegra, and zaditor (ketotifen). If you are unable to relive your symptoms with otc medications, then a doctor visit maybe beneficial.

Allergy visit: I agree that if symptoms are not controlled with medications, or require constant meds, or develop additional symptoms such as asthma or sinusitis then a specialist visit is probably warranted.

Allergy evaluation: The need to be evaluated by an allergy specialist depends on the nature, duration and severity of the problem. For mild symptoms, say hay fever lasting a few weeks controlled with nonprescription medications, evaluation is probably not needed. Allergy evaluation is indicated for more severe problems, like asthma, chronic hives, chronic nasal and sinus problems, or anaphylactic reactions.
