Side effects: Think of goldilocks for most medical conditions: you want things just right, not too low but not too high, either. Excess testosterone can cause change in mood for worse, development of oily skin or acne, scalp hair loss, prostate enlargement, high blood pressure, too much blood, lower HDL (good) cholesterol; in women, facial/body hair in women, lowered voice & enlarged clitoris. This is not diy.

High normal versus?: There is a range from low to high for free testosterone. For men, higher testosterone levels within the normal range are associated with longevity. Low free-ts are associated with increased mortality, especially for cardiac disease. While it is true that men with high t have deeper voices-so what. For low t, voice pitch increases. Not good. For women, another story. Libido is up, but more hair!

It really depends...: High levels of testosterone may increase your risk for conversion to either Dht (which can cause acne and balding) or estrogen (which can lead to water retention and gynecomastia). We are finding now that normal levels are very important and can reduce your risk for various diseases such as heart attacks and strokes in addition to just making you feel much better.
