A member asked:

Is it normal to get hypokalemia for it to change into hyperkalemia?

Nephrologist: Potassium balance is tightly regulated by the kidneys, so any potassium disorder implies some derangement in potassium handling. It is unusual to have low potassium(hypokalemia) if the food intake is normal and it is unusual to have hyperkalemia(high potassium) if you have normal kidney function. So if you have any of these problems, you must consult nephrologist.
