Secretions: Mono is caused by a virus called epstein-barr virus (ebv for short). In my young days - i won't divulge when that was- we used to refer to it as "the kissing disease", because teens often caught it after amorous kissing. The virus is easily transmitted in secretions - so saliva, nasal secretions, urine, etc. It can also live on surfaces for a while, so transmission is actually pretty easy.
