Yes and no: White pathology at the sides of tongue can be cancerous. White plaque at the back of the tongue are most likely dead cell deposits and plaque. Please get yourself checked by a dentist.

No but: a white tongue is not a sign of cancer, but a white patch on the tongue or other part of the mouth can be cancer. see oral surgeon for exam/possible biopsy.
