Canker Sore: Or apthous ulcers are generally brought on by increased stress. Some patients see a reduction by taking multi-vitamins or a supplement of l-lysine. Most medications available reduce the discomfort. We beleive they are autoimmune in nature (like allergies) in that the immune system attacks healthy tissue because of the stressors in life. See your dentist/md to be sure it isn't something else.

Prevention: Canker sore or more specifically aphthous ulcer can be prevented by avoiding a common foam detergent found in most toothpastes called sodium laurel sulfate. Switching to biotene or other toothpaste not containing this ingredient can be the cure in preventing this painful condition.
