These symptoms may: Occur before and during menses. The diarrhea may be the result of excess production of prostaglandins, which are hormone-like compounds, or from conditions such as secondary dysmenorrhea (pain during menses) which is caused by a uterine disease or abnormality. If persistent, seek medical evaluation. Ibuprofen lowers prostaglandin levels and reduces pain and inflammation.
