Make sure!: First make sure that the person is actually choking. Ask them directly, they won't be able to talk but can confirm it using signs or nodding. If the person is choking but it is coughing they should be left alone as it means they are still being able to get air in and are trying to clear the obstruction. In the case when the person cannot breath the heimlich maneuver can be used.
