Possible: It is possible to have manic symptoms without being bipolar, though there is usually a cause. One cause could be from abusing substances. Certain medications can also cause mood fluctuations, like prednisone. In some cases a patient might need to take bipolar medication to stabilize their mood until the other substance is out of their system.
