Kind of.: Dry socket usually becomes symptomatic at around the 3 day mark...But it gets is start when a good blood clot fails to form in the extraction site on the day of surgery.

Very unlikely: Dry socket, or alveolar osteitis, occurs usually after the 3rd or 4th day postop. It's manifested by an increase of localized pain, a bad taste in your mouth, and loss of the blood clot in the tooth socket. Any pain you're feeling on the day of surgery is normal postoperative pain, not dry socket pain. If you're pain medicine is not helping, contact your oral surgeon to discuss and treat.

Yes but...: Dry Socket symptoms usually appear 2-4 days after the extraction not the day of. Smokers are usually the ones who get dry socket the most
