Carpal tunnel syndro: Most hand numbness is from compression of the median nerve at the wrist known as carpal tunnel syndrome. It generally affects the thumb, index, long and half of the ring finger. Numbness of the small and ring finger is usually compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow-otherwise known as the "funny" bone. For persistent numbness you should see a hand surgeon.
