Migrain: A migrain is incapacitating due to sensitivity to light. A normal headache is not. One can function with a normal headache. With a migrain the person needs to be in a darkened room.

Migraine vs Headache: The International Headache Society offers the following specific diagnostic criteria for migraine headaches: throbbing lasts from 4 to 72 hours. Headache must have nausea and/or vomiting and photophobia and phonophobia.
