Who said so?: If this was a physician answering after a series of exploratory questions, it may be valid advice. Most children of this age have rotavirus infection, which if managed symptomatically will resolve usually in 4-5 days. If you cannot keep him hydrated, he won't take his favorite snack foods, is irritable or develops and other symptoms, take him to an er in which they have pediatricians on duty.

Diarrhea: It is important that he doesnt dehydrate so give electrolyte replacement fluids. Slowly introduce a bland diet. No juice or milk. Nothing greasy or fried. If he shows signs of dehyration like crying with no tears, sunken eye, , dry tongue, infrequent diapers take him to the er for possible ivs.
