A member asked:

I've heard canaloplasty is safer & produces better results than trabeculectomy in a skilled surgeon's hands. please give me your opinion?

Possibly: Trabeculectomy is the "gold" standard for lowering eye pressure by surgery. Canaloplasty is somewhat gentler with probably fewer complications however it is in fact not as effective but is useful for those with a need for glaucoma surgery but do not have galloping glaucoma.

Maybe: Canaloplasty is a good procedure and may lower you pressure but results do vary. It is safer than trabeculectomy and less invasive. It also leaves the door open for future trabeculectomy if necessary. It probably isn't "better" than trabeculectomy overall, but is a better first option because it is less invasive and has potentially fewer complications.
