Ankle sprain: Probably an ankle sprain, which is one of the most common injuries, of the lower extremeties. This occurs when playing sports and twisting the ankle. The tenants of treatment are rest, ice, compression, and elevation (rice). Ice to be effective, should be applied within the first few hours of injury to prevent swelling. Compression is accomplished with an ace bandage, or other elastic ankle brace.

Ankle swelling: You might have sprained your ankle when playing ( a sprain is a ligament tear, whether a partial tear or a complete tear). You should wear an ankle support or an ankle brace to help the injury heal.

Appears: As though you have a ankle sprain. Use rice method which is rest, ice, compression and elevation. If symptoms increase it would be prudent to get it checked.
