A member asked:

Iif in a relationship male partner has minor thalassemia and female partner has anemia which problems might threaten fetus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on...: ...The type of anemia the woman has. A hemoglobinopathy like thal-minor or sickle trait, when combined with the male's thal-minor, could produce a baby with thal-major or sickle-thal, both very severe illnesses. If she has vitamin or iron deficiency, or hemolytic anemia, that by itself can be a problem for the baby, but the male's thalassemia would then make no difference in the outcome.
