Ask: You doctor as to the reasoning. Is there a reason the first ct scan was done without contrast? The issue is not too much radiation but the benefit of more tests or best tests to perform. If you stated that there is ascending colon inflammation on ct, what did your colonoscopy show? Mri not typically helpful for intestinal evaluation.

Properly indicated imaging studies represent, by definition, situations where the risks of radiation exposure are outweighed by the benefits to the patient. Mri does not use radiation but may not be helpful in your case.
