Irregular periods : Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections & hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do a home pregnancy test . There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

May be normal: Irregular menstrual cycles usually occur with ovulation problems in the current or previous cycle. The hormone imbalance can cause the uterine lining to shed unusual amounts of blood or discharge in an irregular fashion. If lack of ovulation is the problem, it should become regular within 1-2 cycles.

Sexually active?: If you are sexually active and have not used protection, you could be pregnant. First step is to take a pregnancy test. If the test is negative, and you have not had unprotected sex recently ( in the last 10 days), don't worry about it. There are times where women will have an abnormal period. Stress plays a factor. No evaluation is needed until you have had three consecutive abnormal cycle.

Can be normal: Your periods occur because of changes in hormones within your system. While a lot of women have a period every month around the same time, there is variation from cycle to cycle. Ie – a period may come on a few days earlier or later and maybe heavier or lighter depending on the endometrium lining. It may come continuously or with intermittent spotting. These are variation of a normal process

Old blood: Brown equals old blood that has been sitting at the back of the vagina. Very normal.
