Your primary care MD: Contact your primary care physician, an urgent care facility, or if you are very ill go to the emergency room. Depending on the situation, the doctor may start treating you for this kind of bacterial overgrowth even before the test results are available. In certain patients, this can be a lethal condition, so don't delay!

Ask your PCP: Your primary care doctor can order this test for you. It is a simple test that requires submitting a stool sample to the lab.

Why?: Do you have diarrhea? There is no need for the test unless you have diarrhea. About 3% of the people carry the bug without any ill effects. Unneeded tests cause unneeded treatments and complications of treatments. If you must, ask your doctor for the test.
