Go with a friend: Getting comfortable with needles is something that we all should work toward while recognizing that is okay to be afraid. It is weird to get injected with anything but the needle will keep the pain from becoming too much. Bring a friend for support and try to imagine health, pain relief and good energy coming from that needle. The needle is not a symbol of pain it is a symbol of pain relief.

Teeth & Shots: Talk to your oral surgeon & hopefully he or she can put you at ease about the process. You can always be prescribed an oral anti-anxiety medication the evening before your procedure to allow you to relax. Typically you will have nitrous oxide first (which relaxes you & makes you feel numb), quick & easy IV placement, and then within moments you will fall asleep. You won't feel shots or anything.

Talk to your dentist: Talk to your dentist about your specific fear of needles. Interestingly, some people can undergo tattooing without any problems but are afraid of dental injections. Your dentist can discuss sedation options available, or refer you to an oral surgeon who can perform your surgery with sedation or general anesthesia.

CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.
