Cracked nipples: The bleeding you get when breast feeding is from the trauma and irritation to your nipples. It may not look like much looking at the nipples, but microscopic cracks in the nipples/areolar area can cause a significant amount of blood with feeding and pumping. This is actually a very common happening with breast feeding. Make sure if pumping not overdoing it. Use lanolin as needed to soothe nipples.
