A member asked:

How 2 tell difference between sunburn &butterfly rash?i have ctd.got burn on upper cheeks &bridge of nose on cloudy day &all sunny days.fades in 2days

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Peeling: The rash from a sunburn tends to peel and flake and heal relatively quickly whereas the butterfly rash of autoimmune conditions such as lupus tends to involve the cheeks primarily and last a long time. There is also a significant delay in onset of the rash after sun exposure which may be many days or weeks. Wearing hats and using sunscreen such as anthelios is recommended to prevent both issues.
