A member asked:

What is prednisone for? what does it do? how should it be taken if prescribed? i was told three tablets by mouth for 3 days. is that all at once?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

By prescription only: Prednisone is a very useful drug, and is by prescription only. That means the person with the drug must have some diagnosis that requires prednisone. There is no such thing as being told to take prednisone without knowing what the disease being treated is. Many conditions can be treated short-term with prednisone, but sometimes (unfortunately) long-term use is needed. So, what's the diagnosis?
