Feeling suicidal?: If you're feeling suicidal, the er is a good place to go for help. They'll make sure you haven't harmed yourself already, and they'll also call a psychiatrist or other mental health professional to assess your needs as well. Depending on this evaluation, inpatient treatment may be offered to you to begin with -- followed by outpatient care. The goal is to help you feel better overall.

Admission: To be honest, you will have an initial thorough psychological evaluation. If you are deemed to be genuine it will probably be recommended for an initial short term admission with an evaluation by a psychiatrist. However, some states have different laws regarding length of admission. I urge you to seek psychological consultation if you are having these thoughts regardless of fear of admission.
