Renal Failure: Your dad seems quite ill. To better answer your question, i would have to know his labs prior to his hospital admission. If there are the same, dialysis is less likely. If he has a high potassium level, low blood pressure, low co2 level in his blood and is not passing adequate amount of fluid, he may need dialysis. Please ask the nephrologist taking care of him for more answers. Good luck

A good idea,, : This is probably a good thing for him as he has fluid in his lungs and a high creatinine. This and the known history of diabetes likely means he has renal failure. Fluid in his lungs also indicates congestive heart failure which would need diuretics and so dialysis could help do this as well. Good luck.
