Lindsay's Nails: Half and half nails (also known as "lindsay's nails") show the proximal portion of the nail white and the distal half red, pink, or brown, with a sharp line of demarcation between the two halves. Internal diseases and nutritional deficits can cause changes in the appearance of the nails. See your doctor for a medical workup.

Melanonychia: If you are seeing new pigment in one fingernail, you may have melanonychia. This can be normal and due to a mole growing under the fingernail. However, this can also be a problem if the mole is cancerous. I would have a doctor (dermatologist) look at your nail. There are also many other causes for nail color changes and this can be discussed at your dermatology appointment. Good luck to you.
