Cervical mucous: Estrogen from a growing egg causes the cervical mucous to become thin and stretchy, like egg white. This helps sperm survive and get into the uterus. After ovulation, the cervical mucous gets thick and tacky and blocks sperm entry. "receptive" mucous can be present for many days up to and during ovulation.
