Lyme : First you need to make sure you have an infection w/lyme. You should see an infectious diseases physician & have a proper workup for the presence of the disease. There are published guidelines by the infectious diseases society of america for the management of this infection & in order to make some semblance of clarity on treating the disease these guidelines are the best evidence based practice.

Look at symptoms: Rather than a set time for taking antibiotics, many docs treat until the symptoms are gone. There are also a couple of blood tests that help determine if the infection is still active.
