A member asked:

Is it excess cortisol that makes it hard to go to sleep? is cortisol the thing that keeps waking you up all night?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Stress hormone: Cortisol is a naturally occurring hormone secreted everyday. It has multiple roles. It is described as a stress hormone, secreted at higher levels during physical stresses. It's a steroid class hormone. So too much of it, whether your body is secreting it in appropriately or you are ingesting it, can cause sleep disturbances.
