I'm on valrex. there is a huge, cold sore and i'm putting oitment on it constantly, but the swelling won't go away! any other ideas?

Possible infection: Cold sores can become infected with bacteria although they are initially caused by a virus. When that happens they are worse than usual and resistent to usual therapy. You could try antibiotic ointment but i would recommend seeing your doctor for a culture of the sore and appropriate antibiotics if things continue since rarely a fungus can be involved.
