A member asked:

Hoping you can tell me, is hepatic function lab result considered a diagnosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

What markers?: The liver's health is measured by labs, x-ray, and biopsy. Simplistically, transaminases (ast, alt) measure liver cells, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin measure the biliary tree, Albumin and coagulation panel measures liver synthetic function, alpha-feto protein is a cancer marker of the liver. Viral, inflammatory, autoimmune, familial liver diseases have their own specific tests.
