A member asked:

Is it possible that metformin lowers my blood sugar to a risky level?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Metformin taken alone (without other diabetic medicatiions that can cause low sugars) will not cause sugars to go below normal. It works by decreasing Insulin resistance and making your body use your own Insulin more correctly. It does not cause your pancreas to make more Insulin (that can lead to low sugars).
