Bursitis : It sounds like inflammation of one of the bursae over the knee cap or on the side of the knee cap. Rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen, and elevation will help. You should check in with your knee surgeon to make sure it's advisable to continue as you are or if an evaluation is necessary.
