Diagnosis is key: Patellar dislocations to the inside (medial) are not reported in patients with normal connective tissue and anatomy. Medial dislocation is a reported complication of lateral release. At times, when the patella dislocates, the edges of the medial condyle is prominate and can be confused with a medial dislocation -- so the first key is a accurate diagnosis , before discussing prevention.
