Depends on type: Yes, some viral infections can be treated with antiviral medications. Viral infections cannot be treated with antibiotics. This is typically the case when someone goes into the doctor for respiratory symptoms and wants an antibiotic. The doctor says it is a virus and must run its course. Antibiotics would not be helpful in this case and may be harmful.
