Yes: People with adhd have a brain which is uneraroused. Caffeine is a stimulant which can increase arousal and therefore ability to pay attention. The downside of taking cafeine is it is a diuretic, so be prepared for this. It would be hard to take enough caffeine in coffee, tea, jolt cola or caffeine tablets to match the smooth action of methylphenidate or amphetamines.

No... but: Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence that caffeine helps treat symptoms of adhd. While caffeine has a stimulant effect, it is very short-acting and the dose of caffeine needed to have an effect similar to the stimulants makes it prohibitive. Some parents tell me that their children do better at night with caffeine, but they are few and the effects are short-term.
