What did people do to cure appendicitis in the past before surgery?

There are isolated: Reports of successful antibiotic treatment for acute appendicitis. These are usually in children, or for perforated appendicitis, or come from other countries. Historically, appendicitis caused many deaths before surgical treatment became available. Also, before accurate ct imaging became available, many cases of suspected appendicitis were not really appendicitis, but some other infection.
