Forever if possible: Smoking is harmful to the valve, your heart, and the rest of your body. You should take this opportunity to quit smoking. Easier said than done, but very important.

Smoking cessation: You had a tissue (cow) valve for your aortic valve replacement. You are 34 years old. You should try to avoid smoking with smokking cessation. It is very important that your valve last as long as possible. Smoking can increase blood pressure and stress the valve. The risk is having to have the valve replaced again in a short period of time. Hope this helps.

61 years: Forever is best for your heart or you may find yourself with a second open heart surgery. Otherwise if you wait 61 years and decide to restart, few people are likely to stop you at age 95.
