Went to the doctor and he put a cast on my sprained ankle, is that common treatment?

One way to treat it: It's fine... Some doctors use a splint, brace, taping, cam walkers, air splints or casts, etc. There are many different ways to provide stability during the healing process. It also depends on the severity of the sprain.

Viable option: Being placed in a cast is a good option used to insure immobilization.
