Flatfoot: Flatfoodedness aka pes planus, is a condition in which the normal "plantar arch" of the foot is weakended or absent. It can happen in one or both feet. It is thought to result in fatigue with prolonged ambulation and general advice is to support the arch with shoe inserts.

Can be normal: A certain amount of flatfoot is normal. Most flat feet, if they need any treatment at all, do well with off shelf orthotic inserts. Some require custom orthotics and more rarely, surgery can be necessary if there is significant pain or other underlying abnormalities.
