A 22-year-old female asked:
how much does sperm sorting cost and what is that process like?

It depends: If you mean spinning the semen down to remove Y or X chromosomes, it varies depending on physician. You would need to see and be evaluated by reproductive endocrinologist. It involves providing a semen sample, having the lab spin it and prepare and then typically reintroducing it into the uterus through intrauterine insemination. Insurance will not cover if it is purely for gender

How can I make my husband feel included in the nursing process?

Help hold and burp: I can answer this as a father as well as a pediatrician. Sometimes, with a newborn you just don't have a lot of direct contact, because mom does most of the work. But, we can be a strong second string. We can make mom more comfortable, massage our babies during nursing, help with burping, and hold your baby right after he/she has it's belly full.

A 21-year-old member asked:
Should I bank sperm before the operation, just in case?

Depends : Depends on the operation, if it is something that is likely to change your fertility, or if the operation has a high risk factor and you have a wife/partner who would like to have kids without you but using your dna.

Why is listeria monocytogenes only associated with meats which have been processed?

No: While processed meats are a common source of listeria, listeria outbreaks have also occurred due to cheese, meat spreads, and other food products. The only way to be sure that a food product does not contain listeria is to cook it.

What are sirtuins and how do they impact the aging process?
2 doctor answers • 7 doctors weighed in
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Proteins under study: From studies in yeast, sirtuins (sir2 proteins) are believed to have some effects on aging, on cell death, on stress resistance (such as in situations of food scarcity), etc... Researchers are trying to find out if there are anti-aging effects in mammals. Some believe resveratrol activates a sirtuin and possibly extends lifespan, but so far research with mammals has not shown any such benefit.

A 31-year-old male asked:
At the time of intercourse I m not able to discharge sperms in quantity and organ getting loose after course of 5-10 minutes, is there any problem. Kindly advise.?

Dr. Gaston Moran Celayesanswered

Consult physician: Don't worry about the "quantity" of the sperm, unless there is none. A single drop is enough for conception purposes. You don't say if the penis gets flaccid before getting the orgasm or your total intercourse time is 5-10 minutes. You need to see a physician to evaluate this and other issues to find out the cause and prescribe a treatment if necessary.
