Meningitis: It if is a true infection then in both cases the symptoms of a viral or bacterial meningitis are fairly rapid, there are some bacteria that can take longer to be symptomatic meaning up to two to three weeks though this is unusual. Signs and symptoms of meningitis include headaches, vomiting, altered mental status, confusion, speech difficulties among other findings.
