Baby teeth: If you ask why dentists "now" have to perform work are you saying that in the past they didn't? "baby" teeth are important in the development of the "adult" dentition, and loss of them prior to the normal time of loss creates significant space management problems later in life. As well, many children's overall health is seriously impaired by decayed, infected, or missing baby teeth.

Oh so many choices: Because the 20 baby teeth are so important to normal growth and development, they must be cared for properly. Fluorides and sealants have dramatically reduced the incidence of decayed, missing and filled teeth. Dentists have numerous choices of materials and techniques if repairs are necessary. Talk over your concerns with your dentist.

They always have: Treating the primary dentition is not something new... Baby teeth have been restored for a very long time. They are needed for proper speech, chewing, and maintaining the spaces for the secondary teeth.
