A member asked:

What can happen if a lupus patient gets pneumonia? what sort of treatments would they receive, and for how long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confirm, monitoring: Pneumonia can be due to lupus per se or infection. The diagnosis must be confirmed. If it is confirmed infectious, they should receive antibiotics and very closely monitored. If they are on immunosuppressives, they may need tapering of immunosuppressives depending on the lupus disease activity. They should be under close supervision by md and most often requires rheumatologist input.
