Not Enough Facts: I think because there is no true research data supporting the "overmedication" position.That does not mean it is not true, but there are no consistant facts available to confirm that opinion.

Inadequate diagnosis: The problem is inadequate diagnosis. Reliance on behavioral check lists can tell you a person has a disorder of attention not specifically ADHD. There are good diagnostic tool done by neuropsychologists, but insurance companies are reluctant to pay for testing for educational purposes, leaving primary care doctors with prescribing, at times with inadequate information.
