If my little guy start taking meds for adhd but his tics still remain, what are the options?

Wait or change meds: Stimulant meds (as for adhd) can make tics worse nonstimulant meds (like Guanfacine or clondine) don't tend to make tics worse but rarely make tics improve most kids outgrow tics, so waiting is an option if the tics are especially bothersome or disruptive, there are a few meds that pediatric neurologists will consider trying to see if they help diminish tics (but don't work very well, usually).

Treat the tics: If medication is helping the symptoms of ADHD, continue that treatment. Speak to your doctor or a neurologist about medication for the tics. treatment may include Clonidine, Tenex, (guanfacine) Clonazepam and medications that block the brain chemical Dopamine.
